Diamond, Decoded
Cut, colour, clarity, carat.
You've probably heard the phrase before you've actually understood it. Here's the 4Cs explained properly and the one thing about them that changes specifically when the diamond is lab-grown:
1. Cut - The Sparkle Maker
Cut measures how well a stone's facets reflect light. Never compromise here! Whether you choose a classic round or a modern oval, an Ideal or Excellent Cut ensures your ring unleashes maximum brilliance.
2. Color - Pure Radiance
Graded on a scale from D (completely colorless) to Z (faint yellow). With affordable lab grown diamonds, aim for the D–F range for icy-white brilliance, or G–H if you are setting your stone in warm gold vermeil.
3. Clarity - Inner Purity
Clarity ranks microscopic natural marks inside the stone. Since lab-grown environments are super-clean, grades like VS1 or VS2 are completely "eye-clean", meaning zero flaws visible to the naked eye at a fraction of the cost.
4. Carat - The Size Factor
Carat refers to the physical weight of the diamond. Because the lab grown diamond price per carat is far more accessible, you can comfortably choose a 1.0 or 1.5-carat center stone for your engagement rings without making quality trade-offs.
Here's the part that's actually different for lab-grown
The grading system itself is identical. What changes is what your money buys against that scale.
Where a mined-diamond budget often forces a trade-off (bigger stone or better clarity, rarely both), a lab-grown budget can get you a larger carat weight, a better cut grade, and a cleaner clarity grade, without moving the number on your budget.
That's really the whole story of the 4Cs for lab-grown diamonds: nothing about how they're measured changes. What changes is how far your money goes once they are.
